Triota Honor Society Inducts 38 into 2019 Class at Kutztown University
Kutztown University inducted 38 students into the Iota Iota Iota, known as Triota, Women's & Gender Studies Honor Society at its induction ceremony on Monday, April 23. Triota is an emerging honor society for students in women's studies. The society's Alpha chapter began at Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colo. The Alpha chapter has been working to organize local chapters on campuses nationwide for the purpose of applying for national status from the National Association of College Honor Societies. The goal of Triota is to recognize and promote excellence within the discipline of women's studies. Historically, women's studies programs have shown some reluctance to support honor societies because elitism and exclusion are contrary to feminist principles of equality, inclusion, and non-hierarchical processes and structures. Having wrestled with this question at KU, we believe it is appropriate to recognize and honor the achievements of students who elect to concentrate in women's studies. Inductees are women's studies minors who have demonstrated active involvement in promoting women's issues and gender equality.

Kutztown University presented the Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Awards on Friday, April 5, in the Georgian Room in Old Main. The students who received awards were nominated by staff and faculty members for meeting one or more of the six areas of achievement, which include: successfully completed research projects, high-quality original artwork, high-quality artistic performances (music, chorus, drama, etc.), original writing in literature or meritorious writing in other fields, noteworthy achievements in athletics, and outstanding service to the KU community. The Academic Achievement Awards were established in 2004 through a donation provided by Dr. Carlson Chambliss, KU professor of astronomy from 1970-2003. The purpose of the awards is to recognize the exceptional individual achievements of a select group of KU graduating seniors. Kutztown University Announces 2019 Softball Roster
Kutztown University will have 20 student-athletes representing its softball program for the 2019 season. KU closed the book on 2018 and is ready to write new chapters during the 2019 season with plenty of talented and experienced players returning and an exciting group of new faces. Last season did not go as planned on the field for the Golden Bears, who finished 16-21 overall, just the second season below the .500 mark in the last 34 years. But the pieces are in place to return back to the top of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and the Atlantic Region. KU returns six field-position players, including its entire outfield, and two of its starting pitchers that started in the regular season finale last season. Those returning players, plus a talented group of newcomers gives 32-year head coach Judy Lawes plenty of options and lineup flexibility.
